Commiphora kataf is a rarely cultivated but ethnobotanically very important resin tree from East Africa. It belongs to the same plant family as myrrh and frankincense and produces an aromatic, traditionally used natural resin. The plant is characterized by its gnarled growth, its paper-like peeling bark and its high resistance to drought. It has been valued in its native country for centuries - both as a source of fragrance and incense resin and as a culturally important tree species. Use Ethnobotanically interesting resinous plant Collector and lover plant Incense resin source for rituals and fragrance purposes Ornamental plant for greenhouse and dry garden The main value of Commiphora kataf lies in its cultural, ethnobotanical and aesthetic significance, rather than its commercial use. Growing the seeds The cultivation of Commiphora kataf is possible with a little patience, as long as a very permeable substrate and warm temperatures are guaranteed. Substrate: Highly mineral (e.g. 50 % sand, 30 % pumice/gravel, 20 % low-humus soil) Sowing: Place seeds lightly on top and press down, do not bury deeply Humidity: keep slightly moist, avoid waterlogging Temperature: 22-30 °C Light: bright, but no full sun on seedlings Germination time: 2-5 weeks After germination, slowly acclimatize to drier conditions. Adult plants prefer long dry periods between watering. Worth knowing The name „Kataf“ comes from local East African languages and refers to both the tree and its resin. In traditional cultures, it is used for scenting, in ritual acts and for symbolic purification. The genus Commiphora comprises over 200 species and is known for its enormous morphological diversity - from small shrubs to stately trees, from smooth to heavily scaly bark. Legal notice These seeds are offered exclusively for botanical, horticultural and collector's purposes. The cultivation and possession of certain plants may be subject to legal restrictions in individual countries. Please inform yourself in advance about the applicable regulations in your country.
