The HC-06 Bluetooth Module is a widely used and reliable wireless serial communication module designed for easy integration with microcontrollers and embedded systems. Its pin interface includes VCC, GND, TXD, RXD, along with an LED status indicator pin that allows the microcontroller to detect the Bluetooth connection state directly. The KEY pin is invalid on the slave version, making the HC-06 simple and straightforward for projects requiring slave-mode Bluetooth communication. The onboard LED indicator provides real-time connection feedback—blinking when no Bluetooth connection is established, and steady ON when paired and actively communicating. Equipped with a 3.3V LDO regulator, the module accepts an input voltage from 3.6V to 6V (must NOT exceed 7V). The current consumption is approximately 30mA when unpaired and 10mA when paired. Featuring a 3.3V logic interface, the HC-06 can connect directly to popular microcontrollers such as 8051, AVR, PIC, ARM, MSP430, and even 5V Arduino boards without needing a level shifter or MAX232 chip. The HC-06 module supports full-duplex UART serial communication, offering smooth and transparent data transfer once a Bluetooth connection is established. No Bluetooth protocol knowledge is required—communication happens just like standard serial data exchange. It supports the most common serial format: 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and does not support other formats. Before pairing, users can configure the module using AT commands to set parameters such as baud rate, device name, and pairing password. These settings are stored even after power-off. After pairing, the HC-06 automatically switches into transparent mode, enabling seamless wireless serial communication for robotics, IoT devices, home automation, data loggers, and educational electronics projects.
